"Tut-Tut. It looks like rain..."

It seems I failed to adequately (in fact, completely) consider the weather forecast when making my travel plans to Cairns (pronounced Cans).

After clearing customs at the Syndey Airport; a security process that included a ‘contraband’ inspection conducted by a uniformed beagle with a nose for banned bananas; I approached a domestic travel agent and presented my flight voucher for Cairns. She said, “G’luck, Mate. You know Cairns is flooded!” and directed me to the shortest queue at the ticket counter. Clearly this was the line for the ill-informed visitor from ‘away.’

[Pooh notices that his black rain cloud disguise is failing and the bees are after him]
Winnie the Pooh: Christopher Robin, I've come to a very important decision: THESE ARE THE WRONG SORTS OF BEES!
Winnie the Pooh: Christopher Robin! I think it would help with this deception if you would just kind of open your umbrella and say, "Tut-tut, it looks like rain."
Christopher Robin: Tut-tut, it looks like rain. Tut-tut, it looks like rain.
MORE CAIRNS pics to come....

Hi Jeff--so glad to know that you made it safely! I TOLD you to pack rain gear! (Well, no I didn't--who knew it would be the rainy season?) Anyway, you may have to dump a few more pairs of underwear to be able to fit a poncho in your pack. Now the thing must weigh 33 pounds (from 32.5 lbs.) Too heavy for you to even pick up now. Well, I hope you have a nice dry place to stay. We'll be looking forward to more pics and more stories and maybe more comments from Pooh. Have you ever read the "Tao of Pooh?" Pick it up, you'll like it.

Love you and miss you. Lise xoxoxox

Looks like rain is part of the equation when you're in the (sub)tropics in the summer... Better rain than the terrible fires we are hearing about on the nightly news...
It was bitter cold this am...Jayne and I walked across a parking lot against a bitter, cold, dry, northwest wind...was hard to take a full breath! The weatherman said today that January was the 3rd coldest on record for Caribou, the 5th coldest for Bangor, and the 17th coldest on record for Portland. Feel better?
The sailboats remind me of Ben and the sailing he did in high school. Nick also sailed one year. The boats look about the same size...Greg

Yes, Greg, the boats are similar to the one's Ben sailed in HS. I had been on several aways meets with the team so when I heard the whistle sounding countdown to the start of a race, I recognized it and followed the sound to the end of pier. There was a couple standing with me as we watched the kids race and I described the tactics and strategy of the race as it developed... they thought I was a sailor... little did they know, huh? :-)
